The Edmonton Indy is a professional racing event that is organized by Edmonton residents. The first race was held in the year 2005 on a temporary course around the Edmonton City Centre Airport. This first race was called West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton under the Champ Car World Series. Sebastien Bourdais was the first racer to win the competition.

The following year, the race was called West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton Presented by The Brick. Driver Justin Wilson won the race using a Ford-Cosworth engine. In 2007, Bourdais retrieved the status as champion as he drove a Cosworth-installed vehicle. Finally, in 2008 under the IndyCar Series, Scott Dixon became champion with a Honda as his vehicle.
