Westmount Centre, located in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is a shopping center that houses 75 stores and services. These include Home Depot, Zellers, Shoopers Drug Mart, Safeway and Empire Theater cinema complex with four-screens. The mall’s large food court provides the luxury to its patrons by given them the much-needed resting stop and a place to have meals after shopping. The Centre is owned by First Capital Realty and covers a total retail area of 439,000 square feet, hosting its tenants in a 2-floor building.

In August 1955, Westmount Centre started as a strip mall called Westmount Shopper’s Park. It was Edmonton’s first shopping mall and it generated some excitement in the developing city. With Woodward’s, Johnstone Walker and Kresge’s as anchor tenants including 40 other traders and 3,000 parking stalls for free, it was considered a classy space by Edmonton residents.

One of its historical features is the movie theatre. In 1959, the Sahara Theatre was a single-screen entertainment facility which was replaced by Westmount Theatre in 1965 when it was taken over by Famous Players. They then built a twin theatre smaller in size having a 500-seat auditorium adjoining the earlier 800-seat theatre.
