Formed in 1927, the Association of Realtors is Edmonton’s own real estate board that regulates and imposes standards in the industry.

The EREB boasts of over 3,200 registered real estate brokers as members. Aside from implementing rules in order to standardize dealings with the real estate and properties industry, EREB focuses on bringing buyers closer to the merchandise.

Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for real estate

The EREB makes use of the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) network to advertise available property. The MLS is a network of listings put up by Realtors from different locations in the province of Alberta. Brokers, agents and associates can post the properties of their clients on the website and provide comprehensive descriptions of such to potential buyers. An MLS website can be viewed by other real estate brokers who work for potential buyers by scouting for specific property. For people who don’t partake of the services of agents when looking for property, viewing of available wares can be obtained through websites that host the MLS.

EREB oversees the processes and management of the whole MLS network to see that each realtor-member fulfills his or her duty in accordance to local laws and the rules of the board.

EREB as an academic provider

The EREB also administers programs for those interested in practicing in the real estate business. Real Estate Associate certificates can be awarded to individuals who have undergone training and passed exams administered by the board.

EREB as part of the community

EREB gives back to the community of Edmonton by playing sponsor to various charitable causes aimed for the fight against poverty, hunger, and homelessness. EREB was able to fund some projects in 2007 such as the Alberta Guide Dog Society which gave a guide dog to each child that needs the assistance, the Edmonton School Lunch Programs that provided hot nutritious meals for children in schools, and the Youth Emergency Shelter Society for the upgrade in the washroom facilities of youths in the program.
